Administrators Appointed to Hull Contractor Tucker Mechanical and Electrical

Exigen Group take control of 50-year-old firm amid sector headwinds and winding-up petition

David Kemp and Richard Hunt of Exigen Group have been appointed joint administrators of Tucker Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Limited on 7 October 2025, following the collapse of the long-established Hull-based contractor.

Founded in 1973 as Neville Tucker Heating Ltd, the business evolved from a domestic heating installer into a national mechanical and electrical services provider, rebranding in 2018 to reflect its expansion into commercial, industrial and public-sector projects. Operating from headquarters at Sutton Fields Industrial Estate in Hull, with additional offices in Birmingham and Gateshead, Tucker employed about 66 staff prior to its administration.

The company’s administration follows the closure of its offices and the lodging of a winding-up petition by a Welsh staffing agency last month. Despite its recent involvement in high-profile regional schemes—including mechanical and engineering works for Hull Royal Infirmary, the rollout of over 50 new Pure Gym locations, the Humberside Fire and Police operations centre, and a £20 million contract for Siemens Gamesa’s blade plant expansion in Hull—the firm succumbed to mounting financial pressures that have challenged many mid-market construction and engineering contractors.

Tucker had recorded turnover of £25.1 million and pre-tax profits of £451,589 in the year to 31 January 2024, only slightly down from the prior year’s revenue, with directors at the time expressing optimism about the company’s pipeline. However, persistent inflation, rising financing costs, and tightening margins across the building services sector appear to have eroded liquidity.

The administrators from Exigen are now assessing the company’s financial position and options for the business and assets. A notice posted to the firm’s email accounts and phone lines confirms its offices are closed.
