Another P&O “on the cards” if workers’ rights not strengthened, O’Grady warns

Frances O’Grady, the General Secretary of the British Trades Union Congress (TUC), warned that another P&O Ferries-style scandal is “on the cards” if the government does not act to introduce stronger protections for workers. This past March, the ferry operator admitted that it had broken the law by failing to consult unions “in good time” ahead of making 800 staff redundant, but did not face criminal proceedings after the Insolvency Service concluded there was “no realistic prospect of a conviction”.
