Centre for the Moving Image – administration

Centre for the Moving Image, the parent charity behind the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which also runs Filmhouse Cinema and Café Bar in Edinburgh and Belmont Filmhouse in Aberdeen, entered administration on 6 October. In a statement, the charity’s board cited a “perfect storm” of sharply rising costs, alongside reduced trade due to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, as the main drivers behind the administration. 102 out of 107 staff were made redundant. The Edinburgh International Film Festival had been running since 1947, making it the world’s oldest continually running film festival. Tom MacLennan and Chad Griffin of FRP Advisory were appointed as Joint Administrators. Each of The City of Edinburgh Council, acting in its capacity as the administering authority of Lothian Pension Fund, and The Royal Bank of Scotland PLC has a registered charge against the charity.
