Dumbarton Football Club - Case Update

A second rescue deal has been received for the Dumbarton Football Club after the first offer—which would have seen creditors paid in full—collapsed in April.

Ian Wright and Craig Morrison of Quantuma were appointed as joint administrators of the Dumbarton Football Club in November 2024 after the club’s directors said they were left with no other option following the non-receipt of significant funds owed from the sale of development land in 2021.

In mid-April, it was announced that a deal had been reached with Gareth Phillips and his real estate business, Pendragon Group, to wipe out debt, pay creditors in full and provide cash flow to support the club for three years. Unfortunately, the proposal was withdrawn a couple of weeks later due to the ill health of Mr Phillips, who forfeited his non-refundable deposit.

The joint administrators re-engaged with other potential bidders, resulting in terms being agreed with Mario Lapointe, who is described as “a Canadian entrepreneur and business owner with a passion for sport, particularly football”. The administrators are now working with Mr Lapointe and his advisors "to deliver the transaction by the second week in June, allowing everything to be in place for the new season, planning for which is well under way”.
