Gak Music Emporium - Administration

Gak Music Emporium, one of the UK’s largest musical instrument companies, entered administration on 7 April.

There was speculation about the fate of the Brighton-based business after its North Laine shop closed in late March, but the company did not formally appoint Philip Armstrong and Daniel Conway of FRP Advisory as joint administrators until a couple of weeks later.

Shortly thereafter, competitor Gear4Music reportedly purchased stock and certain intangible assets, including websites, trademarks, and commercial data for £600,000. Gear4Music emphasised that it was not acquiring the trading business and has no current plans to use the GAK trading name. Staff have been made redundant.

Lombard North Central PLC and National Westminster Bank PLC have a registered charge against the company.
