Glasgow electrical contractor BGL enters administration
All 40 employees were made redundant after rising costs, weak contract margins and project delays left the subcontractor unable to meet its financial obligations

BGL Contracts Limited, a Glasgow-based electrical contractor serving the retail, hospitality, leisure and automotive sectors, entered administration on 30 June 2026, with Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs of Interpath Advisory appointed joint administrators after efforts to secure fresh investment failed. The company stopped trading following their appointment, resulting in the redundancy of all 40 employees.
BGL specialised in electrical fit-out, installation and maintenance work, primarily acting as a subcontractor on commercial projects. The company had operated in a highly competitive market in which contractors were required to absorb increasing labour, material and other operating costs while working under contracts offering limited margins.
Its financial position deteriorated amid rising costs, low contract margins and the rephasing of several major contracts, which disrupted anticipated workloads and cash flow. The directors sought additional investment but were unable to secure sufficient funding to allow the company to continue meeting its obligations as they fell due.
BGL was incorporated in Scotland in July 2009 and traded from premises at Hillington Park in Glasgow. Its most recent accounts, covering the year ended 31 July 2025, reported more than £1.7 million of current assets, fixed assets of approximately £5,400 and net assets of about £287,000.
The administrators are supporting former employees in submitting claims to the Redundancy Payments Service. They are also inviting expressions of interest in BGL’s business and assets.
