London Mint Office falls into administration with jobs at risk
Alvarez & Marsal appointed over collector coin distributor as administrators seek interest in stock and assets

The London Mint Office Limited, a major UK distributor of commemorative and collector coins and medals, has entered administration, putting a substantial number of jobs at risk at its operations in London and South Wales. Michael Magnay and Jonny Marston of Alvarez & Marsal were appointed joint administrators on 31 July 2026 and are inviting parties with an interest in the company’s stock or assets to contact them.
The London Mint Office operates a processing and distribution centre in Tonypandy, Rhondda Cynon Taf, alongside its London office. Its most recently reported workforce stood at 248 employees in 2024, with a significant proportion based at the Welsh facility. Local reports have indicated that as many as 160 jobs may be affected by the collapse.
The business specialises in historic, commemorative and collector coins and medals, sourcing products from national mints, central banks, dealers, auctions and private collections. Although its trading identity dates from 2006, the underlying company was incorporated in 1997. It has no connection to the government-owned Royal Mint.
The company forms part of the Samlerhuset collectables group, which operates across a number of European markets. The London Mint Office describes itself as the group’s British arm and has historically distributed coins through relationships with national mints and other official institutions. Samlerhuset said the UK business had become a market leader in collector coins and medals since its launch under the London Mint Office brand.
The administration follows efforts in recent years to fund the company’s consumer finance offering. In 2024, The London Mint Office secured a customer finance facility from Omni Capital Finance, with Gambit Corporate Finance advising on the transaction. At the time, Samlerhuset was described as having 590 employees across 14 European markets and making about two million shipments annually.
