MBF Care Ltd - Administration

MBF Care Ltd, formerly known as the Michael Batt Foundation, a Plymouth-based care provider, entered administration on 21 August.
The not-for-profit organisation was established in 1999, providing in-home care to vulnerable adults with special needs.
In 2023, its domiciliary care services were rated as inadequate by the Care Quality Commission, causing the foundation to bring in new management. Founding director Michael Batt resigned in April 2024 and the foundation changed its name from Michael Batt Foundation to MBF Care Ltd.
Samuel Bailey and Jonathan Trembath of Richard J Smith & Co were appointed joint administrators, and said that the foundation had fallen into financial difficulties and that they were engaged to give advice this summer prior to their appointment as administrators.
27 workers have been made redundant, while Plymouth City Council has been forced to find other care packages for more than 20 adults with special needs.
