Moores Furniture Group enters administration following prolonged construction downturn

Moores Furniture Group, a West Yorkshire-based kitchen supplier founded in 1947, entered administration on 19 January 2026 after facing sustained trading pressures linked to weak housebuilding activity and rising costs across the construction supply chain.
James Clark and Will Wright of Interpath Advisory were appointed joint administrators and completed a pre-pack sale of the company’s customer list and certain intellectual property assets to Wren Trade Kitchens Limited, a subsidiary of Wren Kitchens. The transaction was executed shortly after appointment and was aimed at minimising disruption to customers while preserving elements of the Moores brand and operational legacy.
Moores Furniture Group operated from Wetherby and supplied kitchens to housebuilders, public sector bodies, and affordable housing providers. The business employed more than 450 people prior to the administration. Following the sale, the administrators retained approximately 336 employees on a temporary basis to support the orderly completion of existing projects, while 124 roles were made redundant.
According to the administrators, the company had made progress in reducing costs but was ultimately unable to overcome a combination of subdued housing starts, inflationary input costs, and a slowdown in new contract awards. Efforts to secure additional investment or a full sale of the business were unsuccessful, leading directors and advisers to conclude that an administration and asset sale represented the best available option.
Interpath said the transaction allows continuity for customers with live projects and supports the ongoing use of Moores’ intellectual property within the wider Wren group. Wren Kitchens said it had been in discussions with Moores prior to the administration and has agreed an exclusive option to allow affected customers to transfer outstanding contracts, while also exploring potential employment opportunities for former Moores staff as part of its own expansion plans.
