Pre-Pack Sale Preserves 45 Jobs at East Yorkshire Haulage Firm BI Halder & Son

Leonard Curtis completes sale to Halder Transport & Storage amid mounting cost pressures across transport sector

All 45 employees of BI Halder & Son Ltd have been retained following a pre-packaged sale of the East Yorkshire haulage business to Halder Transport & Storage Limited, completed immediately after the appointment of joint administrators Sean Williams and Phil Deyes of Leonard Curtis on 8 October 2025.

Based in Driffield, the family-run company has provided haulage, bulk storage, and grain handling services to the agricultural sector for more than 50 years. Like many regional logistics operators, BI Halder faced escalating costs through successive economic shocks—first the pandemic, then the war in Ukraine—which drove sharp increases in fuel and maintenance expenses. Rising interest rates and tightening liquidity further eroded margins despite a refinancing deal earlier this year.

Director Louise Halder called the process “devastating” but said the focus had been on safeguarding staff and customers: “Our priority was to retain our loyal workforce and continue providing high-quality haulage and storage services. We’re now looking forward to a new chapter under Halder Transport & Storage.”

Williams noted that the case marks the third regional haulage administration handled by Leonard Curtis since May, reflecting broader fragility across the transport sector. “Hauliers remain busy but are operating on thin margins with high input costs. Unless economic conditions or policy support improve, the industry will see continued consolidation,” he said.
