Sisters 'key' players in £67million debt plot over insolvency avoidance

Sisters Joanna Seawright and Karen Mortimer have been banned from serving as company directors for seven years after the Insolvency Service found they played “key roles” in the Atherton corporate rescue scheme, which allowed 138 insolvent companies to be wound up without addressing more than £67 million in debts. Acting through firms they controlled, the pair were accused of failing to verify company assets—worth over £42 million—and facilitating a scheme that enabled businesses to evade creditors and insolvency obligations.
