Thames Water should be temporarily placed under public ownership, MPs warn

MPs have urged the government to consider placing Thames Water into the Special Administration Regime rather than allowing its creditor-led recapitalisation process to continue indefinitely. The utility has around £20 billion of debt and could run out of cash by year-end without a restructuring or government intervention, while the parliamentary committee questioned whether the current creditor proposals sufficiently protect the public and environmental interest.
