Witon Engineering Limited enters CVL

Witon Engineering Limited, a North Devon precision engineering business that had operated as a family-owned manufacturer since 1948, entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on 10 September, with Nick Harris and Lucinda Coleman of PKF Francis Clark appointed joint liquidators.

The company manufactured precision-turned parts for customers across a range of industries and, at its peak, employed more than 60 people from its Barnstaple headquarters.

PKF Francis Clark said demand had been hit in recent years by economic uncertainty linked to Brexit, the Covid pandemic and the war in Ukraine, while rising energy and operating costs put further pressure on margins. A recent fall in customer confidence and sales followed a strong start to the year, and the directors concluded there was no reasonable prospect of a return to sustainable profitability.

The company ceased trading in July, resulting in 23 redundancies, and Lambert Smith Hampton is now assisting the liquidators with the sale of its engineering plant and machinery.
