Why are women being blamed for Birmingham’s bankruptcy?

Women employed by the Birmingham city council are being blamed for its effective bankruptcy, with the council’s statement citing “financial liabilities relating to equal pay claims… in the region of £650m to £760m” as the reason for its collapse.
