Women's charity collapses into administration
Louise Williams and Emma Mifsud of Opus Restructuring appointed joint administrators

A long-standing women’s mental health charity in West Yorkshire has entered administration, bringing an abrupt halt to services that for four decades operated as a referral point for NHS providers and community agencies across the Wakefield district.
Louise Williams and Emma Mifsud of Opus Restructuring were appointed joint administrators of Well Women Centre on 12 February 2026. The charity was founded in 1985 to deliver non-medical counselling, therapy and wellbeing support “for women, by women”. It operated from two city centre bases in Wakefield and worked with women facing a range of challenges, including domestic abuse, addiction and trauma.
The administration follows a period of mounting funding pressure and rising demand for services. In recent years, the centre had reportedly closed its waiting lists due to capacity constraints, underscoring the strain on specialist community-based mental health provision.
In a statement announcing the shutdown, the charity cited financial issues and confirmed that it would no longer be operating. Staff described the decision as devastating, pointing to the organisation’s role in supporting women across the district for 40 years.
